Chinagirl
TV Pilot: US / China
Written and Created by Brendan Davis
Feature Film in Development: Paris / China
Written and to be Directed by Brendan Davis
Logline:
An ambitious American in Paris partners with a magnetic, Mandarin-speaking Western woman to expand his business into China—only to find her complicated past may destroy everything they’ve built together.
Project Overview:
Originally developed as a one-hour drama series, Chinagirl was recognized as a Finalist at the 2021 Oaxaca Film Fest and a Quarterfinalist in both the 2023 Screencraft TV Pilot and Los Angeles International Screenplay Awards. Now being reimagined as a feature film, the story relocates to Paris and sharpens its emotional and geopolitical focus.
The film follows Jason Harris, a driven but emotionally scarred American entrepreneur in Paris, trying to broker a life-changing deal with Chinese partners. His translator and partner, a brilliant Hong Kong-raised British woman fluent in Mandarin, is more than she appears—carrying with her the ghosts of a politically volatile legacy that could upend their personal and professional lives.
As their connection deepens, the stakes rise: what began as a bold business play becomes a tense moral and emotional reckoning. With powerful forces closing in from both sides of the globe, Chinagirl explores ambition, trust, trauma, and the cost of crossing borders—personal and political alike.
Development Note:
The new feature version is designed with global appeal, balancing character intimacy with international intrigue. Paris and China serve as dual backdrops for a story that asks: what do we risk when we let someone all the way in?
